Running and hiking in the Zagorje Valley

ETI's employees took part in the event "Run and Hike in the Zagorje Valley", which is organized by the Izlake Sports Association together with the Zagorje Sports Institute with the support of the Municipality of Zagorje ob Savi in honor of the municipal holiday. This year, the event was organized in the month of September.

How did it all begin?

In the 60s of the last century, the organization of World War II fighters started the Orehovica - Zagorje ob Savi relay race in honor of town Orehovica, which was burned down during the Second World War. In the 1970s, the organization was taken over by the TVD Partizan Izlake, which in 1998 was renamed the Sports Association of Izlake. 10 runners of one team ran on the track, each at a distance of about 1 km. Associations and clubs from the municipality of Zagorje ob Savi competed. Usually 10 to 15 teams competed. Over the years, the interest of societies and clubs in participating in the relay race declined (only a few teams ran, but some ran on several routes), so in 2004 the organizers decided to organize an individual race at the same time. Due to the positive response, the run was organized for the first time in 2005 in the form we know it now.

Later, they added children's runs and a run for the disabled, and also a hike. Already in the first year, there were 138 individual runners, and the most in 2014, when there were as many as 317. The average participation on the 10-kilometer course until this year was 223 runners, 333 runners on the children's runs, and 13 disabled people, 29 hikers and 29 runners on new 5-kilometer track from 2019. An average of 78 runners participated in the 10 km municipal street running championship from 2014.

The course record from 2019 is held by Rok Puhar in the men's category with a time of 31:29 and from 2022 by Anja Fink with a time of 37:42 in the women's category. The best time from the municipal championships has Marin Ocepek with 34:38 and Mateja Baš with 41:07.

The 10 km run has been included in the Štajersko Koroški Running Cup since 2006, in which approximately 20 running organizers from the area participate.

The route runs from the bus station under the Trojan slope in Polšina, Orehovica, Podlipovica, Izlake, Kisovec, to Zagorje ob Savi.

The hiking route is from the market under the clock, Podkraj (Repnik), Vinska skala, Ruardi, to the market under the clock or vice versa.

The ETI team, which had a total of 9 members, also took part in the event, both running and hiking.
